  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp water/cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 oz red Wilton candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream together butter, oil, and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract.
  3. Mix in the buttermilk until fully incorporated.
  4. Melt the chocolate and allow it to cool slightly before adding it to the batter.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  6. Divide batter into two bowls; color one with black gel icing and leave the other plain or color with red.
  7. Alternate spoonfuls of both batters in prepared pans and swirl gently with a knife.
  8. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before decorating.
